Message to Families from Chair Rick Petrella

My dear friends,

As another school year comes to an end, we can look back with great admiration on the many accomplishments of the students who continue to shape and define the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board. Our students continue to grow in their academic and spiritual journey, which can be directly attributed to your support and dedication to Catholic education throughout the year.

Our students, parents, and staff have continued to excel as we navigate through, and hopefully out of, the pandemic. We, as the Board of Trustees, recognize and applaud these efforts and achievements and underscore how proud we are to have you as part of our system.

Despite the challenges of COVID-19, it has been a very busy and productive year as we have continued to work diligently to reach the goals outlined in our Strategic Plan. Under the leadership of our senior team, we have truly provided, Excellence in Learning ~ Living in Christ for all.

The Board has approved the budget for 2022-23, with total increases in the Board’s operational budget over 2021-22 at 3.1M or 2%. This year, we are in line with the Board’s ongoing commitment to providing a fiscally responsible budget, while maintaining effective, efficient, and equitable programs and services, and putting dollars back into our schools.

I am truly excited about the year ahead with the announcement of our new 45.7M Catholic secondary school in Brantford and our new 8.1M Catholic elementary school in Haldimand. These major projects, along with our regularly scheduled capital renewal projects, are testament to the growth and strength of our Board and our commitment to always putting students first.

Our school communities continued our tradition of gathering to worship throughout the year for liturgical celebrations, school events, meetings, and for reflection and solace. Our parents, in partnership with staff and parishes, help guide and inspire our students to become mature, caring, and responsible citizens who exemplify our Catholic School Graduate Expectations. We are grateful for your involvement and commitment to our Board.

We acknowledge the ongoing support of all Catholic stakeholders for their positive impact on Catholic education and thank each of you for your dedication to our publicly funded Catholic schools.

On behalf of the Trustees of the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board, we wish you all the very best and hope that you enjoy a safe and restful summer.

Best wishes,
Rick Petrella | Chair of the Board
